Private Training

Why choose private training and who is it
for?
Private training is tailored to your goals and
the needs of your dog in your own home. Our focus is on teaching the
behaviors that are important to you in a fun and positive way for
you and for your dog. Our training concept goes above and beyond
training basic obedience and provides a specific set of skills that
you can use with your dog over his/her lifetime. We want you to ask
yourself, what you want to be able to do with your dog, and to
provide you a path to get there. We will provide a foundation for
understanding of what motivates your dog, to the advantage of you
and your dog.

What is different about in home training?
In-home private dog training fits the needs of
busy families and professionals that do not have time to travel to a
class, that want higher level training, or that want the entire
family participating in the training process. Training progresses
at a faster pace in this one on one relationship. Behaviors are
taught in their actual environment, where the dog needs to
understand them. Training goes faster and becomes more reliable
sooner. In-home training allows us to find the best method to teach
your individual dog these individual behaviors. You tell us what
your goals are for your life with your dog, and training is designed
around those goals. Private training typically creates more
motivation to practice and follow through. Short sessions of two to
three minutes a day incorporated into your daily routine are how
training is most easily attained. Whether you need assistance with
basic training or guidance with behavior issues, private training
may be the road to take.
Initial sessions last typically an hour to an
hour and a half to discuss training goals, answer questions, start
foundation behavior training, and/or address specific issues of
concern.
Follow-up appointments are an hour in length
and build on the foundation behavior skill set for the family dog.
Occasionally, we incorporate video taping into the coaching sessions
so that sessions can be reviewed. Coaching sessions are followed- up
by email or include a training plan for you to use with your family.

Two
options are possible for Foundation Training:
Option one: Coaching sessions
where basic behaviors are trained with the family, and during the
week the family practices the training with their dog independently.
In follow up appointments, additional behaviors are introduced with
the family continuing to train foundation behaviors. This format
suits individuals or families that want to be very much involved in
the training process.
Option two: Day Training suits busy
families or professionals that simply have too much already to
juggle, and need additional help with training their family dog.
Basic behaviors are trained by the trainer during the day (typically
2-3 sessions per week), and once a week those skills are transferred
to the family. This is a jump start program where the initial
training is done by the trainer who has more experience and skills
in the actual training process. The family works on maintaining
those behaviors once initially taught to their dog. To be
successful, this option still requires participation of the owner,
but not as much time and energy in the initial training.
Which
process is more suited to the family, their personal preferences,
and their time commitments can be assessed at the initial meeting.

Foundation Behaviors are the groundwork
for living happily and comfortably with
your dog. They are the habits and
responses we want to be part of our
dog’s everyday life with us. Please
