Behavioral assessment is different from foundation level training. Behavior assessments deal with more complex issues that have surfaced with your dog. It is an in-depth process of inquiry where much of the time is spent in a question and answer format to determine what issue is actually presenting. Assessments are typically scheduled for an hour and a half to two hours.
This is very much like peeling back the layers of an onion. We will examine what is presenting, what is triggering the issue, if possible, how the undesirable behavior is getting reinforcement, and to help manage your dog through the situation. Gathering these crucial insights is the focus and goal of the first session. Some dog owners may decide that understanding the behavior and having been presented with some tools to manage it is what they need to fit their lifestyle and are content with that result. Other clients decide to pursue a behavior modification plan.
